I. Professional Category Overview

Energy power is mainlysupported by the university's power engineering and engineering thermophysics discipline, which contains mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and other disciplinary directions, and was evolved from the major of chemical machinery established in 1956. In 1984, it became one of the three doctoral programs in chemical process machinery in China. In 2003, it established a postdoctoral mobile station in the first-level discipline of power engineering and engineering thermophysics. In 2010, it was granted the right to confer the first-level doctoral degree. The "Public Safety and Energy Saving" supported by it was awarded the funding for first-phase construction project of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu Province (excellent), the "Advanced Energy Technology and Equipment" was awarded the funding for second-phase construction project of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu Province (landmark achievements passed), the "Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics" was awarded the funding for third-phase construction project of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu Province, and as the main supporting discipline for the engineering disciplines of our university, it has entered the top 3.6‰ of ESI.

The major is developed based on the orientation to social and regional development, and it conducts research by focusing on the fields of advanced energy systems, power systems, modern electric and electronics, electric power and energy internet technology, high voltage technology, energy storage technology, new energy development and utilization, low carbon technology, energy management, etc. Give full play to the advantages in terms of application transformation and solving key major technology problems, establish joint R&D centers with enterprises through long-term cooperation with local governments and enterprises, and build a service mechanism for regional economic development and a mechanism for incubation and industrialization of innovation results. Organically combine the advantages of cultivating talents in the field of energy and power engineering with the strength of related fields to achieve synergistic development and multi-dimensional linkage.

II. Cultivation Goals

Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the discipline comprehensively implements the CPC's education policy, takes establishing moral values and educating people as the fundamental, and the all-round moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic development as the main line, and cultivates high-level talents with firm political stance, noble ideological character, rigorous academic attitude and innovative spirit.

Holders of the academic degree in energy power should have good professional ethics and entrepreneurial spirit, strong ability to solve practical problems, professionalism and international vision; be proficient in a foreign language; be competent in technology development and application, engineering design and implementation, new technology promotion and application, engineering planning and management in the field of energy power; and be able to meet the needs of national and regional economic construction and engineering technology development.

III. Study Period and Credits

The study period for full-time professional master students is generally 3 years, with a maximum of 5 years. The maximum study period for part-time professional master students is not more than 6 years.

Professional degree master students should complete a total of 32 credits, including 24 credits for courses, 2 credits for attending academic lectures/reports (at least 15 times) and 6 credits for professional practice.

For professional degree master students enrolled at the university with equivalent academic attainments or from another discipline, they must make up the main undergraduate courses of the discipline they are studying or take the main courses (not less than two courses) of the graduate students in the field of their majors. The make-up courses will only be recorded with grades and no credits, but they should be included in the personal cultivation plan.

The study of courses for full-time engineering master students is completed within 1 year in principle.

Note: Students have a free choice of professional elective courses among all the courses in the university according to the requirements of instructors and their research topics.

V. Compulsory Links Management

1. Academic lectures/reports (2 credits)

Professionaldegree master students must attend at least fifteen academic seminars on and off campus during their study period, including at least five academic seminars arranged by the Graduate School, at least two lectures on the quality of humanities and aesthetics, and other lectures arranged by each college, and only those who have attended a total of at least fifteen seminars can obtain 2 credits for lectures/reports.

2. Professional practice (6 credits)

Professional degree master students must participate in professional practice for no less than half a year, which should not be less than one year for fresh undergraduates in principle. The organization of professional practice should implement and embody the principles of combining "centralized practice and sectional practice", "on-campus practice and on-site practice", and "professional practice and thesis work". A total of 6 credits is for professional practice sessions.

Professional practice should have clear task requirements and assessment indexes. Before the defense, graduate students should write a professional practice report of not less than 5,000 words, which will be assessed by experts inside and outside the university and the person in charge of the professional practice unit. Those who pass the assessment will be given 6 credits; and those who fail to pass assessment cannot participate in the defense. Requirements are detailed in the "Measures for Management of Professional Practice for Professional Master Students of Nanjing Tech University" (Nan Gong Yan (2019) No. 12).

VI. Thesis

1. Basic requirements for thesis

The basic requirements for thesis are detailed in the Basic Requirements for Doctoral and Master's Degrees in First-Level Disciplines (published by Higher Education Press, edited by the Sixth Discipline Review Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council).

2. Thesis proposal

The topic should come from an applied topic or a practical problem, and must have a clear professional background and application value. Graduate students should write a proposal based on their topic selection and practical research.

The proposal should be made public at the end of the third semester or the beginning of the fourth semester within the field, and should be validated by 3-5 experts in relevant fields, among which there should be experts with senior professional and technical positions in relevant industry practice fields. Students may not apply for defense until at least half a year after the examination and approval of the proposal, as detailed in the Requirements for the Proposal of Graduate Students of Nanjing Tech University.

3. Mid-term assessment

The mid-term examination of the thesis is uniformly organized by the college at the end of the fourth semester or the beginning of the fifth semester, and the examination is carried out in accordance with the Implementation Measures for Mid-term Assessment of Master Students of Nanjing Tech University.

4. Thesis review and defense

Professional master students can apply for defense after completing all the links and credits stipulated in the cultivation plan. Thesis reviewers and members of the defense committee should include experts holding senior professional and technical positions in relevant industrial practice fields. Requirements for thesis review and defense are detailed in the Detailed Rules for the Master's Thesis Defense and Review and Degree Application of Nanjing Tech University.

5. Academic achievement requirements

Result assessments for professional degree master students are implemented according to the requirements of Degree Evaluation Sub-committee.

VII.Criteria for Graduation and Degree Awarding

The criteria for graduation and degree awarding shall conform with the relevant regulations of the university.
