Chemical Engineering and Technology
(Discipline Code: 0817)
I. Discipline Overview
Chemical Engineering and Technology is an engineering technology discipline that studies the common laws of material transformation, material composition change, material properties and their changes in the chemical industry and other process industries, as well as the key technologies for the design, operation and optimization of related process and equipment. It takes the basic theories of chemistry, physics, mathematics, chemical engineering thermodynamics, transfer process principles, chemical reaction engineering, separation engineering, process system engineering, etc. as the basic knowledge system, and experimental research, theoretical research and computer simulation as the research methods, and serves various fields of economy and society through engineering applications.
Chemical Engineering and Technology of Nanjing Tech University is among the earliest batch of disciplines established by China, ranked A grade in the fourth round of discipline evaluation, and is a preponderant discipline ranking first in Jiangsu Province. It has the State Key Laboratory of Materials-Oriented Chemical Engineering and the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Special Separation Membrane. It has a well-structured and energetic faculty with academicians, outstanding youth and chief scientists of the National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) as the leaders, middle-aged and young doctoral supervisors as the backbone, and young doctors returning from overseas as the main body. The development of chemical engineering and technology is closely linked and crossed with mathematics, physics, chemistry, material science, environmental science, biology and other disciplines, forming six secondary disciplines of chemical engineering, chemical process, industrial catalysis, biochemistry, applied chemistry and material chemical engineering.

Doctoral students should send the first draft of the thesis to the pre-defense (pre-review) experts and post a pre-defense notice according to the time points and requirements stipulated by the college or discipline. Graduate students who have passed the pre-defense (pre-review) should submit the relevant materials of the pre-defense (pre-review) to the college for record. Those who fail to pass the pre-defense must apply for the pre-defense (pre-review) of the thesis again according to the time specified by the college or discipline after making substantial adjustments and improvements under the guidance of the supervisor (team) in response to the problems in the research work of the subject and the writing of the thesis in accordance with the comments made by the assessment team. The implementation rules of the pre-defense (pre-review) will be formulated by the College.
5. Thesis review and defense
Doctoral students can apply for defense after completing all the links and credits stipulated in the cultivation plan. The specific requirements for thesis review and defense are detailed in the Detailed Rules for the Doctoral Thesis Defense and Review and Degree Application of Nanjing Tech University.
