Four Ontario Universities Visited NanjingTech

A delegation of four Ontario Universities including Prof. Peter Ricketts, Provost of Carleton University, Prof. Peter Mascher, Associate Vice-President, International Affairs of McMaster University, Prof. Gary Slater, Associate Vice-President, Student Affairs of University of Ottawa and Prof. Robert Haché, Vice-President Research & Innovation of York University visited Nanjing Tech University on November 5thand met with President and Academician Huang Wei for discussions on collaboration between two sides.

President and Academician Huang Wei extended welcome to Ontario delegates and introduced the history and latest development of NanjingTech. He said that NanjingTech had made inspiring progress since the establishment of its strategic goal of building a "Comprehensive, Research-Oriented and Globalized" University. Particularly after NanjingTech was officially selected as one of the first round of "2011 Plan" Universities, NanjingTech had made breakthrough in talent cultivation, scientific research and international collaboration. The Chinese Sate Council has recently issued "The Overall Blueprint for Construction of World First-class Universities and First-class Disciplines" which will give renewed impetus to the development of Chinese Higher Education. In the next 10 to 15 years, "2011 Plan" together with "the Overall Blueprint" will significantly promote Chinese higher education and place Chinese higher education among the first class in the world. Nanjing Tech University and other fast-developing Chinese universities will make substantial progress in their pursuit of excellence. President Huang Wei expected to have all-round, strategic and tangible collaboration with Ontario universities that is mutually beneficial to both sides.

The Ontario delegates in their speeches expressed their gratitude for the warm reception of NanjingTech. They were deeply impressed by the beautiful Jiangpu Campus and completely in favor of President Huang's comments on the role of globalization to the development of modern universities. They believed that there was great potential for the collaboration with Nanjing Tech University. Both sides reached consensus on staff and student exchange, joint research programs and other joint activities after in-depth discussions.

The visit of the four Ontario universities to NanjingTech is part of the Jiangsu-Ontario Mission activities which aim to expedite the all-round and strategic cooperation between Jiangsu and Ontario. Prof. Jiang Juncheng, Vice-president of NanjingTech attended the Jiangsu-Ontario University Cooperative Agreement Signing Ceremony & President's Alliance Roundtable on November 6th.
