The conferring ceremony of honorary professorship on Dr. Peter Gregory, editor-in-chief ofAdvanced Materials,a top academic journal, was held on September 16thin the Jiangpu Campus Auditorium. The ceremony was attended by President and Academician Huang Wei, Vice-president Prof. Cui Yihu, directors of related functional departments, schools and institute as well as teacher and student representatives.
As President and Academician Huang Wei pointed out in his speech, the success in becoming one of the first batch of “2011 Plan” universities breaks new ground for the development of Nanjing Tech. The university is striding steadily forward to the “Two-Phase 5030 Project” by means of top-level design and the supporting mechanisms. Nanjing Tech is endeavoring to become a “comprehensive, research-based and globalized” institution of higher learning with opener mind, broader vision and more positive initiatives. It is implementing its globalization strategy and intensifying its collaboration with such top-notch overseas universities as Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Imperial College London.
The appointment of Dr. Peter Gregory as honorary professor will not only provide new growth point in physics, chemistry, materials, electronics and information engineering and create new developmental opportunities for Nanjing Tech but also contribute to increasing Nanjing Tech’s social influence, recruiting high-end talents, promoting scientific innovative capacity and establishing Nanjing Tech’s National Laboratory of Advanced Materials.
After the ceremony, Dr. Peter Gregory introduced the historical development ofAdvanced Materialsand its companion journals and spoke highly of the academic contribution that Chinese scholars have made. He also introduced some new publications of Wiley such asAdvanced Healthcare Materials,Advanced Energy MaterialsandAdvanced Optical Materials.Dr. Yan Li, editorial assistant ofAdvanced Materials,subsequently introduced the process of submission, peer review and acceptance and elaborated on how to write academically and reduce the rejection rate.
