报告人简介:
Dr. Chao Zhang joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in October 2012 as a Guest Researcher. He has been a key contributor to the structural-fire research program in the Engineering Laboratory. His contributions are recognized by NIST, and he was selected as a recipient of the 2015 NIST EL Distinguished Associate Award. His earlier doctoral work was selected as one of the 2015 entries for ”the best of the best” which recognized its scientific excellence. In 2014, he was recognized by the International Association for Fire Safety Science (IAFSS) as one of the top three researchers in the area of fire safety science for a triennial period of 2011 to 2014, and awarded the prestigious IAFSS best thesis award “Excellence in Research.”
内容简介:
Before the construction of the National Fire Research Laboratory (NFRL) at the NIST, there is very limited number of facilities in the world that allows scientists and engineers to conduct research on the response of real-scale structural systems to realistic fire and mechanical loading under controlled laboratory conditions. The unique facility will enable large-scale experiments using fires up to 20 MW and will contribute to the technical basis for performance-based design methodologies for structures exposed to fire. This talk overviews the major achievements in the structural fire research during the past ninety years, and presents the speaker’s recent study on safety of steel structures exposed to localized fire hazards. Recent research in NFRL will also be reported.
